Here our founder explains the figure “5,000” in the company’s name. Does 5,000 Cities need 5,000 mentors — one for each city across the world that has at least 100,000 people?
At least one for each one of those cities? The more the better? What if the mentors start seeing each other as competitors? And what if they enhance each other’s value proposition for startup teams, instead?
Whatever the (preliminary, ongoing, mid-term) outcome, we can currently see two basic modalities for those of you, guys, who have expressed interest in our Startup Mentor volunteer position, whatever your city of present focus.
“That startup is called 5,000 Cities LLC..”
So, sure we ARE a startup ourselves. And we do need help. Especially, with the gospel we preach to your choir: hyperlocal marketing in YOUR cities of focus. And some of you have already (and more than once hinted to our management that that startup you’d like to mentor is 5,000 Cities itself).
Now the fun part. What if we end up having 15 super quality, creative, open-minded and like-minded mentors in Fort Worth, or Chennai or Buenos Aires? In each of those. Well that’s not a problem just yet. If it ever becomes a problem! The power of human connection — and Action. Our cities have plenty of problems to tackle. As long as we have like-minded people, we are more likely to figure it out faster.

That was essentially our initial idea, when we began making those calls for Startup Mentors, folks. Why would any mentor with spare 3-12 hours per week want anything else? And sure — 5,000 Cities is there to help you, rest assured, people!Â
